RE: [#LutherAlert] March Safety Tips
In addition to the #LutherAlert test message that we send every term, we are introducing a new monthly test plus safety tips in order to raise awareness and preparedness in the Luther community.
This month’s #LutherAlert safety tips are on severe storms. With spring, severe thunderstorms and tornadoes return to the region. Our weather watches and warnings are issued from the La Crosse, Wis., office of the National Weather Service.
A #LutherAlert is sent when NWS La Crosse has issued a tornado warning and the weather presents a direct threat to the Luther campus. We do not issue a #LutherAlert for every NWS La Crosse tornado warning for Winneshiek County, because the weather could be affecting a different part of our county. .
Be prepared for tornados by taking a moment now to find the emergency shelter location for your residence hall and for your classroom buildings. Often it is the lowest level of a building and away from windows.
While the city of Decorah will sound their warning sirens during weather emergencies, they are designed to warn individuals who are outdoors, and you may not hear them indoors.
Make sure you have more than one way to receive weather alerts and warnings. A list sources specific to Luther and the Decorah area can be found below:
Decorah Radio Stations—100.5 and 104.7 FM, and 1240 AM
